Surgical Bras
We recommend the use of surgical bras after any type of breast surgery or surgery that affects the upper torso. Proper post-surgery bras will help ease pain and promote healing. There are two main types of bras that women may need immediately after chest surgery. After some surgeries, including breast enhancement and breast reduction, your doctor may recommend a compression bra. This type of surgical bra puts even pressure on the breast tissue. Other women just need a surgery bra that won't irritate sensitive areas and will feel comfortable in bed. A soft, non-underwire bra with few metal parts will protect the health of your breasts after surgery. Another common medical bra is a pocked bra, or mastectomy bra. For more information on mastectomy bras, see our
Mastectomy Bras section.
Surgical Compression Bras
A surgical compression bra is a medical-grade surgery bra that is to designed to press down on the breasts to prevent swelling and other complications. Compression bras for surgery are designed to be comfortable enough to wear all day long and into the night. This type of surgery bra is generally recommended to women who have had breast reductions, breast implants, or who have lymphodema. Always comsult your doctor when purchasing a surgical compression bra.
Post Surgery Bras
After breast, chest or shoulder surgery, comfort is your top priority. Surgical bras are designed to gently support your breasts for a smooth and restful recovery. We recommend surgery bras that have no underwire and are made of soft, skin-friendly materials. For bed rest, a front closure surgical bra will let you sleep comfortably. Front close surgery bras are also great for women with decreased mobility or soreness after surgery.
